2026/01/28 CCHP Leadership Participated in High-Level Global Dialogue at PMAC 2026

To strengthen CCHP’s global engagement, CCHP Director Dr. Hung-Yi Chiou, Co-Director Dr. Yik-Ying Teo, and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Betty Ya-Wen Chiu participated in the Global Convening of Deans of Global Public Health, a designated Side Meeting held on 27 January during the Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC) 2026. CCHP Co-Director Dr. Yik-Ying Teo, who also serves as Vice President (Global Health) at the National University of Singapore and Dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, was among the hosts of the meeting.
The convening brought together 39 senior public health academic leaders from Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America for strategic dialogue at a pivotal moment for global health. Participants included internationally recognized leaders such as Dr. Margaret Chan, former Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO); Prof. Antoine Flahault, Director of the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva; Prof. Liam Smeeth, Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine; and Dr. Karla Soares-Weiser, Chief Executive Officer of Cochrane.
Discussions focused on pressing global health challenges, including the development of institutionalized regional platforms to strengthen workforce capacity and system resilience, enhanced academic engagement in policy and health diplomacy, and issues related to global health governance and sustainable financing. Beyond the structured sessions, participants actively exchanged institutional experiences, reform initiatives, and innovative strategies to address evolving public health challenges.
These strategic priorities closely align with CCHP’s mandate to advance health promotion competencies, strengthen professional capacity across the Asia-Pacific region, and cultivate regional leadership. Participation in this high-level forum formed part of CCHP’s broader strategy to position the Asia-Pacific as an active contributor to emerging global health governance frameworks while reinforcing strategic academic networks. Through active exchanges, participants underscored shared global concerns alongside local context-specific solutions, highlighting the value of peer-to-peer learning among academic leaders.
